The winery was founded in 2006 by the Cherven family. The tradition of winemaking in the Cherven family comes all the way from their Gagauz ancestors, primarily Orthodox Turkic-speaking people that settled in the area, at the beginning of the 18th century. As the craft for wine was passed down through 4 generations, the wife Lora and husband Gheorghe took their passion a few steps further, developing it into a business.
Besides winemaking, Cherven family also offers a peek into Gagauz traditional life in their own self-made museum, which consists of objects gathered of their families throughout the years. Lots of objects have stories to tell, from pictures of their relatives, to old irons, lamps, Gagauz furniture, handmade carpets, and a coffer full of grandmother’s wedding dowry.
While enjoying the wines, Lora or Gheorghe will offer you detailed information on each wine. For those wishing to immerse themselves deeper into the Gagauz culture, hosts offer the option to taste their national cuisine with specialties like traditional cheese, gozleme and their famous lamb dishes – kavurma, shurpa, etc. Cooking master classes are also available.
The displayed prices do not include transport to the winery, which can be arranged upon request for an extra charge.
"KaraGani" is a winery, which is engaged in grape cultivation and wine production. The wines "KaraGani" are produced by original technology from selected grapes of European varieties, grown on its own vineyards and located in the southern part of the Republic of Moldova, in the city Vulcăneşti (200 km from Chișinău).
In the Southern Budjac prairies, in the interfluve Dunai and Dnestr, not far from Lake Kagul, are located the vineyards "KaraGani". The 10 ha of vineyards stretch on a land full of history, between Trajan’s Wall (built in the 3rd century) and the monument to the Turk-Russian Battle from Cahul in 1770 (an obelisk inaugurated in 1849).
“Kara Gani” wines have repeatedly been named ‘best’ of Gagauz wines at the various local and national wine competitions. Each year they produce only 10.000 bottles, sold in a few shops across the capital, in Comrat and directly at the winery.
