If you don’t have time to visit all of Moldova, but want to get a feel for what life is like in much of the country, try Eco-Resort Butuceni, a guesthouse situated in a picturesque place that enchants you with landscapes that open sight. It's a village with rocky hills and meadows of a green, the river Raut seems to stand to watch the peace and quietness of the place. The village Butuceni is situated 47 km from Chisinau (north) and 18 km from Orhei. At the agropension "Eco Resort Butuceni" you have the marvelous opportunity to return to the times of our ancestors, through the objects exhibited at the pension, and in particular through the restored farmhouses. Each object, stone or tool for work can speak about the origin of the Moldovan people.
The guesthouse is renowned for its rustic-style, mouth-watering cuisine, Moldovan wine and original entertainment for tourists. “Eco Resort Butuceni” has 19 traditional-style rooms, all with full facilities and includes a swimming pool, spa, terrace and parking. Tourists can attend cooking master-classes; participate in preparing grape must; try their hand at milking cows and goats; and even make their own cheese. The place is included in the international CerTour tourism network (Quality Certification system in AgriTourism), and every year since 2015, it has hosted the country’s largest open-air opera show called “DescOpera”.
The pension offers comfortable rooms, with on suite bath, decorated in a traditional, rustic style but with modern conveniences – air conditioning and flat screen TV and cable channels.
The restaurant serves traditional Moldovan dishes, prepared from natural ingredients, many of them grown in the pension's own garden. The pension has several outdoor pools, sauna, table tennis equipment, and comfortable lounge area decorated with traditional arts and crafts. All of its cottages are made of natural materials. Lucky guests can even sleep on a lijanca — a toasty bed that is an extension of a stove. Be ready for the Butuceni staff to put you to work. You will feed the animals, milk the cow, collect eggs from the henhouse, and perform other tasks that capture the charm of country living. You can also attend cooking workshops. In one of them you will knead dough and make bread with your own hands. Food at Butuceni is phenomenal, and local music and dance add spice to the menu. If you’re an outdoorsy type, you can climb the Orheiul Vechi rocks. And in the evening you can relax in the guesthouse spa. If you come at Christmas, you can ride a horse-drawn sleigh and listen to traditional carols. All the houses are made of ecological materials, and the luckiest ones can sleep even on a real stove (bed-stove).
