Moldova is a small country in Eastern Europe. Its rich soil and temperate continental climate with warm summers and mild winters have made the country one of the most productive agricultural regions since ancient times, and a major supplier of agricultural products in southeastern Europe. Moldova’s fertile soil produces fruits, vegetables and grain products and one of the most important industries of the country is wine - making, for which Moldova is known far beyond its borders. For many years, wine-making in Moldova was the basic occupation of the population.

33.8 thousand km2. Moldova’s territory is 350 km long from North to South and 150 km from West to East.

Description

Moldova is a landlocked state. Nevertheless, it has an access point to the Danube on a stretch of 430 meters at the country’s southernmost point (Giurgiulesti), which provides potential access to the Black Sea as well.

Republic of Moldova is a parliamentary republic with a president as head of the state and a prime minister as head of the government.

Moldova is a member of the United Nations Organization, European Council, Partnership for Peace, WTO, OSCE, GUAM, CIS, BSEC and other international organizations. Republic of Moldova aspires to join the European.

Most all type of credit cards is accepted, very limited number of ATM’s will accept ‘chip and pin’ cards. The Moldovan economy is traditionally cash-driven, you may not always be able to pay by card (particularly outside of the capital city Chisinau).
